Church reopens for worship
Faith United Church of Christ, 711 Seventh Ave., Altoona, will reopen for worship at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, June 21.
Worshipers are asked to wear face masks, and masks will be provided for those who do not have one. Congregants are also asked to spread out in the pews in a way that respects the need for social distancing. Hymns will be recited, not sung, to avoid the spreading of germs/droplets, and the drinking fountain is closed. Parishioners are asked not to shake hands or give hugs at this time.
Free lunches to be handed out
n Free lunches will be handed out while supplies last at the side parking lot starting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at the Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 2800 Union Ave., Altoona.
n Second Avenue United Methodist Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona, will hand out to-go bagged lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20. Lunches will be handed out at the Second Street door. Those attending are asked to keep a social distance while waiting in line.
n Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, will hand out free bag lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday June 20. The lunch will include a sandwich, a bag of chips, a dessert and fruit. Lunches will be handed out in the church’s parking lot for drive-thru and walk-ups while supplies last.
Mass schedule updated
The Mass schedule for St. Mark’s, 416 Sixth Ave., and Holy Rosary, 900 N. Fourth St., is as follows: All weekend Masses — 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday — will be celebrated at the St. Mark’s site.
All weekday Masses — 8 a.m. Monday through Friday — will be celebrated at the Holy Rosary site.
Ham pot pie available
Ham pot pie quarts are available for take out Saturday, June 27, at Upper Claar Church of the Brethren, Claysburg. Preordering is suggested by calling 239-5449. Takeouts will be available at 5 p.m. Cost is $5 per quart.
Food pantry open
The Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren food pantry is open Mondays and Fridays by appointment only. For information or an appointment, call Deb at 207-8293.
