Dinner canceled, drawing to go on
Saint Mark’s Catholic Church 21 Club complimentary dinner party for the 21st drawing will not take place Sunday, May 17 due to the coronavirus restrictions. The drawing will be held that day and the video of the drawing will be on Saint Mark’s Facebook page. Checks will be mailed to the winners and names will be published on Saint Mark’s website and in the bulletin.
Area churches provide free meals
n The Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 2800 Union Ave., will host a free lunch giveaway beginning at 11:30 a.m. on a first come, first served basis Saturday, May 16.
n Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, will distribute free bag lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16. The lunch will include a sandwich, a bag of chips, a dessert and fruit.
n St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Roaring Spring, is handing out free meals to Morrisons Cove families from 2 to 5 p.m. every Friday. A limited quantity of half gallons of local milk will also be handed out one per family. St. Luke’s is at 401 E. Main St., Roaring Spring. For information, contact the church office at 224-4116.
n The Faith Baptist Church of Altoona will continue its free Saturday hot lunch ministry through Saturday, May 16. The meal will be available for pick up from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meals will be distributed at the lower level of the church, on the corner of Fourth Avenue and 40th Street. Aglow to meet via teleconference
Altoona Aglow Lighthouse will meet through a conference call at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16. The group now has its own phone number. The join the discussion and prayer time, dial 1-978-990-5357 and enter access code 7323577#.
Food pantry open by appointment
The Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren food pantry is open Mondays and Fridays by appointment only. For information or an appointment, call Deb at 207-8293.
Food distribution to continue
Center City Church will provide food at their City Blessing food drive at 3 p.m. every Saturday through May, at the former United Methodist Church, 1220 12th Ave.
The church also urges the community to continue to participate in their community offering every Sunday at 9 a.m. running until the end of May. Food, monetary donations and essential goods are accepted.
Virtual services have also been made available via Facebook and YouTube. More information can be found about this on Center City Church’s Facebook page. Services will also be made available on Cornerstone Network on Monday at 6 a.m., Tuesday at 8 a.m. and Saturday at 9 p.m.
