Cross-town Basketball League teams forming

TYRONE — The Cross-town Basketball League is just one of the programs Joshua House offers to youth in the community. The purpose of the program is to provide the opportunity for youth — 7th through 12th grade — to play in a non-school affiliated basketball league.

“The Cross-town Basketball League provides an opportunity for players to build a relationship with God. The players see first hand the power of prayer and interactive Christian mentorship from the other coaches, players, volunteers, and referees,” said Randy Wilson, coach of the 2019 Cross-town Basketball League championship team and Coach of the Year recipient. “As a coach, seeing the players build a relationship with God has the most impact on me.”

Teams are scheduled to practice at Joshua House, 926 Logan Ave., Tyrone, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday beginning on Jan. 15. Full court, 5-on-5 games with PIAA officials will take place at Joshua House at 5:30 p.m. every Saturday beginning on Jan. 18. After the Championship game, players and coaches celebrate the season with a pizza party and a traditional game of coaches versus players.

Participants must register before 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10. Participants cannot be currently playing on the varsity team of their school.

Anyone interested in participating in the 2020 Cross-town Basketball League is invited to the following open gym opportunities where coaches will be scouting players to draft for their team:

– 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18

– 5:30-7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 28

– 5:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8
