Ex-Altoonan McKelvey is a recent Emmy winner

Recent Emmy-winner Tim McKelvey of Manhattan once lived and attended school in Altoona.
McKelvey, 54, is the son of R. Gene and Shirley McKelvey of Reedsville. R. Gene McKelvey was raised in Altoona and graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1951.
“We’re really, really proud of him,” said Shirley McKelvey. Her husband was in the insurance business and was transferred to Altoona from Lewistown in the mid-70s. Between 1975 and 1980, Tim McKelvey attended Stevens School and then transferred to Calvary Bible School. The family moved back to Lewistown in 1980 when R. Gene McKelvey was transferred back there.
Tim McKelvey and his design team were awarded an Emmy for outstanding period costumes for their work on Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” It is Tim’s first Emmy as a wardrobe supervisor, Shirley McKelvey said. He previously won three golden statues for his work as part of the wardrobe/costume team on “30 Rock” in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
The McKelvey family has many relatives still living in Blair County.
“He considers himself a New Yorker now,” Shirley McKelvey, 84, said. “He moved to New York after graduating from Penn State in 1987.”
