SAMA-Altoona collaborating with UPMC

ALTOONA — The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Altoona is pleased to announce its recent collaboration with UPMC. The Museum installed 18 paintings by the late Sue Severson at the beginning of August in the UPMC Altoona hospital.

These paintings were hung in order to make hospital visits and stays more pleasant and less sterile. UPMC and SAMA plan to continue this partnership, covering the walls with artwork in an effort that will benefit employees, visitors, and patients in the future.

Severson received a B.F.A from City College of New York, as well as her M.F.A from Brooklyn College, having studied at Brooklyn Museum Art School and Art Students League. She and her husband, Donald Severson decided to relocate to Altoona from New York in 1998. Her cityscapes are full of active, vital people of all ages and backgrounds. Severson bequeathed her collection to SAMA at the time of her death. Although deceased, Sue will always be remembered as a beloved and talented artist and a caring and giving person.

The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Altoona is located in the Brett Building at 1210 Eleventh Avenue. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Museum is a handicapped-accessible facility and is open to the public free of charge. Parking is available in the garage across the street. For more information, please visit www.sama-art.org.
