Spiritual notes

An outdoor Mass honoring married couples with Bishop Mark L. Bartchak, as the celebrant and homilist, will be held at 7 p.m. July 14 at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Alleghenies, Loretto, next to the Basilica of St. Michael.

The general public and married couples are invited. Bring a lawn chair for seating. The Mass will be held in the church if it rains.

School’s Out Block Party will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at New Life Community Church, corner of Seventh Street and Bell Avenue. There will be free food, games and adventures.

The sixth Novena of 2019 to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Therese (the Little Flower) offered by the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Loretto will open on June 22 and end June 30. All intentions submitted to the nuns will be remembered with the special Novena prayers after the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the nuns’ chapel.

Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament is held at 4 p.m. every Sunday and every first Friday of the month. Everyone is welcome to attend the Benediction followed by the veneration of the relic of St. Therese of the Child Jesus of the Holy Face.

Those who desire to share in the graces and blessings of these nine days of prayer, and in the private prayers of the Carmelite Nuns during the Novena, should send petitions to Mother Prioress, Discalced Carmelite Monastery, P.O. Box 57, Loretto, PA 15940.

New Creation in Christ Ministry will serve a free hot meal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the community kitchen, 1620 16th St., Altoona. The free meal is open to everyone and is held the third Saturday of each month. For more information, call 942-9516.

Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, will serve a free luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The menu will include a variety of homemade soups, a sandwich, beverages, desserts and fruit. All are welcome to the free lunch and fellowship.

Altoona 28th Street Church of the Brethren will serve a free meal from 11:30 a.m. to

1 p.m. Saturday. The menu includes hot dogs, baked beans and dessert. The monthly food pantry also will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. A free clothing and household item giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 22.

Vacation Bible school will be held Monday through Friday, June 17-21, at New Creation in Christ Ministry, 1620 16th St., Altoona. The theme is “Miraculous Miracles” and is geared to children 6 to 15 years old. Snack will be provided.

Grace Family Bible Church, 2243 Mill Road, Duncansville, will hold vacation Bible school from June 17-21 with the theme of Hall of Faith. For more information, call the church office at 696-4366.

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 806 13th St., will hold a strawberry festival at 10:45 a.m. Sunday in the parish hall. A light lunch will include strawberry shortcake, hot dogs, broccoli salad and beverage. Donations for the church’s food pantry will be accepted.

Raffling of baskets will be held at noon. Everyone is invited.

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Johnstown will hold its annual Strawberry Festival from 111 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 20-22.

The event features free live entertainment and strawberry desserts. Bottled water, hot tea and coffee also are available.

Entertainment includes Justin Garmin, Brian Harshberger, Cathy Jaggers, Catty-Anne and John Wolfe.

Creation 2019 music festival will be held June 26-29 at the Agape Farm, 17512 Rapture St., Shirleysburg.

Faith United Church of Christ, 711 Seventh Ave., Altoona, will host a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 22.

The event will be held rain or shine. A large variety of items and food will be available, including soups, hot dogs, ox roast and baked goods.

A basement yard sale will be held from

8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Juniata Presbyterian Church, corner of Seventh Avenue and Sixth Street, Juniata. Clothing, kitchen and other items will be available.

Wehnwood United Methodist Church will host its free instrumental music camp June 23-28. The camp is geared for students who have had one year of instruction and above. Students can register at
