Day of Mourning set

A local event will be held in observation of the Day of Mourning, a response to the state of New York recently voting to expand abortion access up to the birth of the baby.

The Day of Mourning is being held in cities nationwide and locally from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 23 at Altoona Alliance Church, 3220 Pleasant Valley Blvd.

The event will be a time to mourn the loss of 61 million babies aborted in the United States in the last 46 years.

It will feature local speakers and prayer from noon to 1 p.m. Participants will be able to join the event in Albany, N.Y., through live streaming from 1 to 4 p.m.

Among the speakers are:

David and Jason Benham, twins who are real estate entrepreneurs, speakers and best-selling authors.

Elizabeth Johnston, activist vlogger and pro-life ministry leader.

Justin Reeder, founder of Love Life, a pro-life ministry based in North Carolina.

David J. Harris Jr., a leader in the black conservative movement, author and speaker.

Blythe Mullen, an 8-year-old child rescued from abortion, will also make an appearance.

Pro-lifers are being asked to wear black, not to shop, close their businesses and repent for abortion on that day. In addition, people are asked to fast from food and pray for a day, meditate on God’s word, and to repent for the sin of abortion.

Brittany Hamilton, an organizer of the local event, said help is still needed. To assist her, call 215-6223. For more information on the day, visit dayofmourning.org.
