Program focuses on Shroud of Turin

Speaker Bill Wingard will present the history and science of the Shroud of Turin, an artifact Pope St. John Paul II has referred to as “the most splendid relic of the Passion and the Resurrection,” during a presentation at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at Saint Francis University. The program is free and open to the public and will be held in the Immaculate Conception Chapel on the campus.

Wingard will tackle the mystery surrounding the Shroud, and provide evidence suggesting it may be the true burial cloth of Jesus Christ. Full-size replicas of the Shroud will be available for viewing.

The Shroud of Turin remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the world. For more than 20 years, Wingard has combed through the science, history and passion related to the relic. He created Shroud Talks to present his findings.

“I am personally excited to have this presentation brought to Saint Francis University,” said Paul Girardi, Associate Director of Campus Ministry at Saint Francis. “The Shroud of Turin is believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ. Wingard is well-versed in the history and science behind the shroud and will, for many, introduce them to this important religious artifact for the very first time. It promises to be a very insightful talk and I believe everyone who attends will walk away with a greater appreciation of the shroud.”
