Ruth and Allen Mitchell
Mr. and Mrs. Allen “Bud” Mitchell of Altoona recenty celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
They were married Dec. 3, 1960, at the Altoona First Church of God by Pastor C.E.. Shore.
Mrs. Mitchell is the former Ruth Astrid Elfreda Franck of Germany. Bud is a lifelong resident of Altoona.
The couple have two sons, John and wife Kim of Altoona, and Ronald and his daughter Jesica Marie, who are deceased as a result of an auto accident.
They have two granddaughters Meredith and Margo, and five great-grandchildren.
A grandson, Matthew, is deceased.
Ruth retired after 41 years with the Altoona Area School District as a cafeteria employee.
Bud retired after 29 years of military service with the Marine Corps and the Pennsylvania Army National Guard serving both as a part-time and full-time recruiter.
Bud and Ruth both volunteered for 10 years with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, serving Lake Raystown. They are both published authors. Ruth wrote “God’s Love for Astrid” about growing up in Germany during World War II, and Bud wrote “Navigating Detours On The Road Of Life Through Faith.”
They are active in the Fourth Street Church of God and the Blair County Antique Auto Club.
They also enjoyed many bus trips.
