John and Margie Closson
Mr. and Mrs. John Closson of Altoona celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Finelli’s Italian Villa, Altoona. They also plan to take their annual Florida getaway this winter.
They were married Nov. 2, 1968, at the former Fourth Lutheran Church in Altoona. Mrs. Closson is the former Margie James.
John was serving on active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps and had recently returned from a 20-month deployment in Viet Nam. Margie joined John at his next duty station in South Weymouth, Mass., where they lived until John’s discharge in December 1969. They immediately returned to Altoona where they remain.
The couple have three children: Janelle Domonkos (Ben) of Ashville; Rob (Lori) of Altoona; and Melissa, who was born Jan. 20, 1970, and died the next morning.
They also have six granddaughters: Morgan Domonkos, Makenzie Closson, Marli Closson, Maya Domonkos, Maria Domonkos and Haley Domonkos.
Mr. Closson retired as a detective sergeant after 25 years at the Altoona Police Department.
He then worked for 16 years as an investigator/
deputy chief for the Altoona Area School District Police Services.
He retired from the school district in 2014.
Mrs. Closson worked 22 years as an inventory controller at Makdad Supply Co., Altoona. She retired in January 2011.
