More Live Shows and an Online Moondogs Fundraiser!

Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, March 26 through Thursday, April 1.

Due to COVID-19-related restrictions, many live music venues across the area are still not able to host performances at this time. The listing below includes both area live public shows and online live-streaming shows; keep checking back, as this listing will be updated as new shows are announced.

If you are attending a public show, be aware that seating and admission may be limited due to restrictions, and masks and social distancing may be required. Please respect others’ personal space if they wish to socially distance from others.

For online performances, if a “virtual tip jar” situation is available during live streams, please consider tipping these performers, and support them during this time when they cannot earn income playing shows at public venues. Websites for these performers are also listed; please consider purchasing their music digitally or via CD, which is another way to SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!

A number of in-person live music performances are happening throughout the area during the next seven days. And as COVID-19 restrictions will be eased further effective April 4, along with outdoor temperatures increasing with spring’s arrival, more in-person live music opportunities are likely in coming weeks.

One of the online highlights this weekend is a special three-night fundraiser for an iconic Pittsburgh blues music venue. Moondogs Pub in Blawnox has been hosting live blues and other performers for three decades, but has been struggling to stay afloat over the past year due to COVID-19 restrictions. The venue has hosted famous blues performers such as Susan Tedeschi, Keb’ Mo’, Derek Trucks, Koko Taylor, Luther Allison, Junior Wells, Jimmy Vaughn, Tommy Castro, the Nighthawks, Jimmy Thackery, Maria Muldaur, Pat Travers, Tinsley Ellis and many more; as well as countless local Pittsburgh and western PA blues and blues-rock performers including Norman Nardini, Billy Price, the Jimmy Adler Band, Bill Toms, Felix & the Hurricanes, Black Cat Moan and more. The “Save Moondogs Virtual Benefit Concert” will feature performance clips from more than 70 different performers who have graced Moondogs’ stage. The fundraiser can be seen on YouTube Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings starting at 7 p.m. (See the listing below for the weblink to the YouTube page.) Viewers can see the performers, plus special items will be up for auction, and opportunities to donate will be available as well.
