Cre814 Winter Carnival, Kegs Corks & Kilts This Weekend!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, March 6 through Thursday, March 12.

Even though an early spring seems to be arriving with increasingly mild temperatures, an inaugural winter carnival event gets in under the wire this weekend.

The first Cre814 Winter Carnival event takes place on Saturday at the U.S. Hotel in Hollidaysburg. Hosted by Cre814 and sponsored by Hometown Bank, the carnival will feature more than 20 vendors, children’s activities, artists and live music. Musical performers include Wolfgang Moon, High Street Drifters, Wilted, The Roof, Space Koi, Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band and Afro N’at. The U.S. Hotel will offer a limited food and drink menu during the event. The festival starts at 11 a.m., and the music begins at 1 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. Admission at the door is $10 per person.

Also on Saturday, the third annual Kegs, Corks & Kilts happens at the Altoona Grand Hotel. Hosted by Taste of the Alleghenies and the Altoona Mirror, the event will feature two sessions, beginning at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., where visitors can sample Irish-themed wines, beers and spirits offered by nearly 30 vendors. Irish-flavored live music will be provided by Full Kilt. Admission to the event is $40 per person at the door; and the event is limited to those 21 years of age or older.

For those looking ahead to the start of the Altoona Curve’s 2020 baseball season, the annual “Curve Fest” kickoff event happens on Saturday at People’s Natural Gas Field. The event gives folks the opportunity to purchase season and single game tickets, plus enjoy games, food and live music from the Matt Pletcher Trio. There will also be tours of the ballpark, a Curve yard sale, and opportunities to donate items to help out America Rescue Workers, who serve low-income families in the community. Donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries are welcome. Admission to Curve Fest is free.

And the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) and Hollidaysburg Area Women’s Club (HAWC) presents their 12th annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner and Dance on Saturday evening in the upstairs hall of the Bavarian Aid Society. The event begins at 6 p.m., and features dinner, desserts, refreshments, a silent auction and games, plus live music from Shallow 9. Proceeds from the event fund GFWC and HAWC scholarships and grants. Tickets are $45 per person or $400 per table of 10.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
