Summer Sounds and Downtown Live Finales, “Rot N’Roll” Returns This Weekend!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, September 13 through Thursday, September 19.

As Summer 2019 enters its last days, two popular summer concert series stage their final shows this weekend. The “Summer Sounds Concert Series” wraps up another season on Friday evening with a show rescheduled from earlier this summer. While Friday’s weather doesn’t exactly feel like island weather, D.D. & the Pub Crawlers will provide the musical entertainment for the ‘Hawaiian Luau’ party beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is free…And Downtown Hollidaysburg closes the book on its “Downtown Live!” concert series on Thursday evening, presenting Felix & the Hurricanes on The Diamond. The music starts at 6 p.m., and admission is free.

Late summer fair activity transitions over the next seven days. The annual Cookport Fair wraps up on Friday and Saturday with live music both days. And the annual Harmony Grange Fair near Westover begins on Tuesday, with musical entertainment nightly. Check out the listing below to find out who is playing each night.

And after nearly a decade away, “Rot N’Roll” returns to area stages on Friday night. Established in 1989, Clearfield County power trio Roadkill returns to action to celebrate their 30th anniversary, raise funds for Lisa’s Ladybugs Patient Care Fund, and unveil their brand new album, “Still Alive and…Well?” The return happens at the Slovak Club in Osceola Mills starting at 9 p.m. The 2019 edition of Roadkill – founding singer, bassist and ringleader Greg Majewsky, guitarist Tommy Raab and drummer Clayton Miller – will feature “rot n’roll” songs from the new CD along with memorable Roadkill favorites from years past. And Greg is likely to bring laughs with his sarcastic wit and self-deprecating sense of humor. Other performers include The Mess, Rukkus, and a “no-star” jam session. Donation at the door is $5 per person, and proceeds will benefit Lisa’s Ladybugs Patient Care Fund, which helps area residents and families impacted by cancer.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
