Flood City, Summer Sounds, Vets Fest and Huntingdon Fair!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, August 2 through Thursday, August 8.

Outdoor live music continues to be in the spotlight as August gets under way. Several big outdoor happenings provide live music highlights during this weekend and the upcoming week.

The “Summer Sounds Concert Series” resumes at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza on Friday evening, with D.D. & the Pub Crawlers entertaining during a special Luau party. So break out your favorite Hawaiian shirt and enjoy the music and festivities starting at 6 p.m., free admission.

Meanwhile, the annual Flood City Music Festival happens on Friday and Saturday at People’s Natural Gas Park near downtown Johnstown. Music gets under way on Friday afternoon. Some of the spotlight performers this year include Davina and the Vagabonds, featuring Altoona native Davina (Sowers) Lozier, Brownout presents Brown Sabbath, and Cowboy Mouth on Friday; and Bill Kirchen, National Park Radio, Dale Watson and the Gin Blossoms on Saturday. See the listing below for the schedule of performers and ticket information.

The 4th annual Vets Fest happens Sunday afternoon at Altoona’s Unter Uns Musical & Entertainment Society. Proceeds from the event will go to Vietnam Veterans of American Blair County Chapter 967 to help out all veterans in need in Blair County. The music begins at 1 p.m., with performances from Flashpoint, Kickin,’ M.F.G., Skye 2.0 and This Albatross. Anna Oberneder will sing the National Anthem to start the afternoon. Donation at the gate is $5 per person, and food and refreshments will be available.

And the annual Huntingdon County Fair gets under way Sunday. See the listing below for the fair’s musical entertainment each day.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
