Day Of Rock, Centre Grange Fair, St. Bernard’s Picnic and More!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, August 16 through Thursday, August 22.

Outdoor festivals, fairs, concerts and other events reach a feverish pitch at this time of year, and this weekend and upcoming week feature lots of events to attend and enjoy.

The 13th annual “Day Of Rock” benefit concert happens Saturday at the Railroaders Museum, with popular area bands and performers providing the music while helping to raise funds for the We Care Foundation of Central PA, which helps out area children with special needs. Shallow 9, Matt Pletcher, Downshift, Railtowne, Fyre, Ben Dumm Band, Jae Smith, Bone Jacked and It Is Written are among the acts taking the stage this year. Gates open at noon, and the show starts at 1 p.m. Advance tickets can be obtained at the Railroaders Museum and Music Emporium.

The Centre Grange Fair is under way and will continue through next weekend, providing live musical entertainment each day on several stages. Some of the grandstand headliners include country star Lorrie Morgan, Fleetwood Mac tribute group Tusk, Ben & Noel Haggard, Velveeta and more. See the listing below for each day’s fair music schedule.

The annual St. Bernard’s Homecoming Picnic happens this weekend in Hastings, with food and refreshments, basket giveaways, children’s activities and live music. See the listing below for this year’s musical schedule at the picnic.

And Richland Community Days takes place through Sunday in Johnstown, featuring live music on two stages, plus food, refreshments and other activities. See the listing below for that festival’s music line-up as well.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
