Hot Music for a Hot Weekend!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, July 19 through Thursday, July 25.

The big topic of conversation this weekend is the heat and arrival of 90-degree temperatures. Although one live music-related event was cancelled due to the expected hot conditions (Saturday’s High Country Toast & Jam at Lakemont Park), other outdoor events will still take place, as well as numerous indoor events (with many in air-conditioned comfort). Let live music take your mind off the heat!

Among this weekend’s highlights, the next installment of the “Summer Sounds” Summer Concert Series takes place Friday evening in downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza, with Hair Force One celebrating the big hair rock of the 1980s. The festivities start at 6 p.m., and admission is free.

Duncansville’s annual Community Days celebration continues on both Friday and Saturday. Local country favorites Stephanie & the Wild Hearts and Beach Boys tribute Still Surfin’ entertain on Friday, and Johnstown’s Three Of Hearts and local dance-rock favorites R2B2 perform on Saturday. Admission is free.

For an Irish flavor, Full Kilt provides the entertainment at Morrison’s Cove Memorial Park in Martinsburg on Saturday evening during the Martinsburg Fire Company’s annual Ox Roast event. Music begins at 6 p.m.

And the first of the local fairs gets started this week, as the annual Bedford County Fair happens Monday through Saturday at the Bedford fairgrounds. Musical entertainment takes place each day.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
