Alive at Five Kickoff, Great Eastern Arts Festival This Weekend!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, June 1 through Thursday, June 7.

The warm weather season continues to kick into gear, with several outdoor live music venues and events making their returns to action this weekend.

Altoona’s Railroaders Museum kicks off the new season of their Alive at Five Summer Concert Series on Friday evening. Headlining the first concert will be Long Island, New York-based Pat Benatar tribute group Fire and Ice. The group will celebrate the hits and classic cuts from Pat Benatar’s career, nearly 40 years after she began her ascent toward becoming one of the leading women of rock music during the 1980s and beyond. Opening the show will be local favorites This Albatross, performing their upbeat blend of rock, pop and country favorites. The concert starts at 6 p.m. Tickets will be $15 at the gate, and the show happens rain or shine.

A rising arts festival event makes its return in Bedford County on Saturday. The third annual Great Eastern Arts Festival will take place beginning at 2 p.m. at Tenley Park in Everett, and will feature a variety of arts and crafts vendors and exhibitors, food and refreshments, and live music on the amphitheater pavilion stage. Musicians will include scholastic performers along with Rue Moyer, Johnstown-based group Afro’n’at, Matt Otis & the Sound and Greensburg-based Kaelber. Admission to the event is free.

On Saturday evening, Philipsburg’s Wagon Wheel Amphitheater convenes their 2018 performance season with a concert by the Chris Bell Band and friends. Now calling State College his home base, Chris Bell has lived and performed his blend of American music throughout the nation. Known as an electric blues artist, Bell explored country and Americana sounds on his 2012 album “Bell Countyline,” before returning to the blues on his latest album, “Baptized By the Blues.” Gates open at 6 p.m. with the concert beginning at 7. Admission is $8 per person.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
