Not an Unlucky Weekend for Live Music!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, April 13 through Thursday, April 19.

Don’t let fears of bad luck on Friday the 13th curtail your plans to take in some live music on area stages this weekend, as there are fun events and noteworthy performers worth checking out.

Among the weekend highlights are a benefit event at the Bavarian Aid Society on Saturday evening. Presented by the Altoona Parrothead Club, The “Woody’s ‘Just Juan More III’ Cabin Fever Benefit” starts at 7 p.m. in the upstairs hall of the Bavarian Aid Society, and features entertainment from This Albatross with special guests Cousin Mike and UnWired (formerly Down to the Wire). The event will also feature a silent auction, 50/50 drawings, a basket raffle, food and drink specials. Proceeds from the benefit will help out individuals and families in need in the Altoona area. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.

Area stages feature a number of performers this weekend; among them D.D. & the Pub Crawlers, Dave Villani & Steve Oswalt, Seas We Fear to Sail, Giants Of Science, Lauren & Joe, Hops & Vines and more. Check the listings below for more details.

And a Sunday night ‘sleeper’ show worth noting…Lansing, Michigan-based heartland rockers The Devil’s Cut return to McGarvey’s to perform their brand of blue-collar original rock. During their first visit to McGarvey’s last year, The Devil’s Cut introduced a gritty, hard-edged, melody-based sound with lyrical themes about hard economic times in rust-belt cities like Lansing. Fans of Bruce Springsteen-styled blue-collar rock might find this a show well worth checking out. The show begins at 7 p.m.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
