Report: Magnitude 5.2 earthquake injures five

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s official IRNA news agency has reported that a magnitude 5.2 earthquake injured five people in the country’s south.

The report said the five, including three women, were hospitalized after the quake hit the village of Laft, on Qeshm Island about 680 miles south of the capital Tehran.

It said the quake damaged several buildings.

Iran is located on major seismic fault lines and the country experiences an earthquake per day on average.

Police probe reported assault of Syrian girls

BERLIN, Germany — Berlin police are investigating the reported assaults of two Syrian teenagers in the German capital.

Germany’s dpa news agency reported Sunday that an unidentified man punched the Syrian girls, ages 15 and 16, multiple times in the face after yelling anti-foreigner slurs at them on Friday night.

Dpa says both girls were treated at a hospital.

Police said a 12-year-old girl wearing a headscarf also was assaulted on Friday. She reported that an unidentified woman tried to pull the scarf off her head and grabbed her by the hair while making anti-foreigner comments.

The woman fled before police arrived.
