10 die of suspected food poisoning

NEW DELHI — At least 10 people in southern India died Friday of suspected food poisoning after a ceremony to celebrate the construction of a new Hindu temple, police said.

Another 32 people were hospitalized after they ate at the ceremony in Chamarajnagar district of Karnataka state, south of the state capital of Bangalore, said a police officer. Eight of those hospitalized were in critical condition, he said.


Three police, 1 marine killed in clashes

MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s federal police said three members of its force have been killed in an attack in the western state of Michoacan.

Police said late Thursday that they mourned the deaths, but did not provide further details.

Local media reported that they died on the side of a highway next to their bullet-ridden patrol cars.

Mexico’s navy said in a statement that one marine was also killed and three were wounded in a separate confrontation Thursday in the northern border state of Coahuila.


Truck veers off road, killing 16 people

KATHMANDU — Police said a truck veered off a mountain road in Nepal, killing at least 16 people and injuring many others.

Police said villagers were returning from a funeral Friday and traveling in an open truck when it went off the roadway.

Rescuers are working to help the injured and have recovered 16 bodies.
