Well-wishers visit McCain after surgery
WASHINGTON — A frail Sen. John McCain has been receiving a stream of visitors and good wishes at his Arizona ranch as he confronts the aftermath of brain cancer treatment and surgery.
Former Vice President Joe Biden sat with McCain for 90 minutes last Sunday, according to people close to both men. Biden followed McCain’s closest friends, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and retired Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, who visited McCain at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix two weeks ago. McCain’s daughter, Meghan, tweeted Friday that she was heading to her father’s side.
Crews battle fire at NS train yard
BELLEVUE — Emergency crews are battling a fire that has engulfed a group of train cars at a Norfolk Southern yard in Ohio.
Authorities say the fire began about 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the train yard in Bellevue. No injuries have been reported. The Erie County Sheriff’s Offices said 10 train cars containing what they believe is ethanol are on fire.
Man eats 30,000th Big Mac burger
FOND DU LAC — A retired Wisconsin prison guard has eaten his 30,000th Big Mac, nearly 46 years after eating his first.
Don Gorske, 64, of Fond du Lac recorded the milestone at a local McDonald’s on Friday. Gorske said he’s eaten at least one Big Mac almost every day since May 17, 1972. He has kept most of the boxes or receipts or has made notes in calendars.
