Westminster Woods gets solar grant

State Rep. Rich Irvin, R-Huntingdon, has announced the approval of an $850,000 grant for a solar energy project in Huntingdon Borough.

The grant, from the Commonwealth Financing Authority, was awarded to Westminster Woods Solar LLC, which plans to use a 4-acre parcel of land next to a senior living community to generate solar electricity.

The grant money will be used for engineering and the purchase and installation of a “solar photovoltaic system,” according to a news release.

“I was happy to learn that Westminster Woods Solar LLC was applying for this grant, which will use renewable energy to serve the energy needs of the Westminster Woods senior living community,” Irvin said in a statement. “This is a great example of how businesses can make use of available renewable energy resources in order to lower their utility bills.”
