Kranich’s closing East College Avenue store

Kranich’s Jewelers has announced plans to close its downtown State College store.

The store on East College Avenue will close Oct. 7, according to the Centre Daily Times.

Kranich’s will continue to operate its much larger store on North Atherton Street.

The East College Avenue location opened in 1976.

Kranich’s also has locations in Altoona and Johnstown, and a new store is planned to open on Plank Road in Altoona in 2018.

Ben Franklin Technology Partners announces contest

Ben Franklin Technology Partners is looking for budding entrepreneurs, researchers, software developers or even small existing businesses to participate in its Big Idea contest.

The contest includes Cambria, Fulton, Indiana, Somerset, Jefferson, Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon, Centre, Juniata, Mifflin, and Clearfield counties.

Entrants must be located in one of the participating counties, are developing/commercializing a new, innovative tech-based product that has not been previously invested in from Ben Franklin and business is either pre-revenue or did not have sales that exceeded $500,000 in 2016.

This year’s cash prizes will be awarded to four winners with a first-place prize of $25,000.

Texas Roadhouse planning several fundraisers

Texas Roadhouse in Logan Town Centre has planned several fundraising events for August.

– Today, 10 percent of proceeds will benefit the Tyrone Hospital Foundation. Proceeds support health care initiatives including the Breast Cancer Voucher Program.

– Aug. 25, 10 percent of proceeds will benefit local fire and EMS companies.

– Aug. 28, 10 percent of proceeds will benefit the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library.
