Name: Eric Reinke

Age: 54

Residence: Clearfield

High school: Clearfield Area

College: Villanova University, Class of 1985

My favorite sport: Soccer

I usually attend games with: My wife, Bonnie

Favorite high school team: Clearfield Bison

Favorite college team: A tie, Villanova and Penn State.

Favorite pro team: Pittsburgh Steelers

My favorite sports memory: Villanova winning the NCAA basketball championship over Georgetown in 1985, my senior year.

The local athlete I’ve most enjoyed watching: Chad Kroell, former Clearfield QB who threw for 3,224 yards and 49 TDs his senior year in 1994

My all-time favorite local coach: Kevin Karrs, former Clearfield football coach who restored respectability to a moribund Bison program from 1975-1980

The most famous athlete I ever met: Mike Eruzione, captain of the U.S. Hockey Team “Miracle on Ice” 1980 Olympics

My most prized autograph or picture is of: I have a hockey puck signed by Mike Eruzione, Jim Craig and Herb Brooks.

If I have a claim to fame as a fan, it would be: I have visited all four major sports halls of fames: baseball, basketball, football and hockey.

If I were the boss of local sports, the one rule I would enforce would be: I would do away with all the “voluntary” practice and out-of-season leagues that high school athletes are coerced into attending, wearing out their bodies and their love of the games, and effectively forcing them to specialize in one sport rather than try different ones.
