Little Lions improve to 7-0
STATE COLLEGE — Fueled by two interceptions, including one pick-six early in the second half, State College was able to keep its undefeated record alive thanks to the strength of its defense Friday night.
The Little Lions’ defense was flying all over the field Friday night as they didn’t allow a score on offense in the team’s 21-6 win over Harrisburg.
Play of the game: With the Harrisburg offense pinned inside its own 20-yard line in the opening minutes of the second half, State College junior Dresyn Green came up with an interception near the sideline and went untouched into the end zone for the Little Lions’ second score of the game.
Player of the game: Green also found the end zone on offense with a 5-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter that put State College up 21-0 and put the game out of reach.
Unsung hero: State College quarterback Brady Dorner didn’t light up the stat sheet, but he managed the Little Lions offense to perfection and orchestrated two important scoring drives in the first and fourth quarter.
Most vital statistic: The Harrisburg offense couldn’t establish the run at all during the game and averaged only 2.4 yards per carry in the game.
State College coach Matt Lintal: “Our kids played tough, physical football. They were able to grind it out when they had to. Harrisburg’s a very, very talented, athletic team. Our kids knew what was coming and we were able to take away their bread and butter plays.”
Lintal on his team’s defensive performance: “Our defense played lights out, just an exceptional game. We felt really good coming in, defensively, with the game plan we had. I didn’t know we would shut them out on defense. To not give up a touchdown defensively is exceptional.”
State College’s Dresyn Green on his pick-six: “Momentum wise, we were really slow. That one play set us off and we took off from there.”
Records: State College (7-0), Harrisburg (4-3)
Next week: State College hosts Central Dauphin. Harrisburg hosts Chambersburg
