Golden Tigers will travel again

The Hollidaysburg high school football team will continue its tour of Pennsylvania with another long road trip Friday night.

The Golden Tigers, who defeated Oil City 33-22 in Franklin last week, will play District 2 champion Wallenpaupack in the PIAA Class 5A first round at Danville High School at 7 p.m.

At the same time, Bedford will take on District 6 Class 3A champion Bald Eagle Area at Windber Stadium.

Northern Cambria is scheduled to host United in the District 6 1A semifinals in a rematch of the season opener. The Colts won that game 43-14. Northern Cambria will have some work to do on its field to make it playable, considering it was a mud pit in the Colts’ 36-34 win over Saltsburg last week.

In other games Friday night, State College will take on Delaware Valley at Hazelton High School in Class 6A, undefeated Clearfield will play Cathedral Prep at Clarion in 4A, and Shade will play Farrell in a Class 1A contest at Somerset.

Locally, Mansion Park will play host to a pair of unbeaten teams, Ligonier Valley and Richland, squaring off for the District 6 Class 2A title Friday night at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Chestnut Ridge must travel to Slippery Rock University to take on District 10 champion Wilmington at 1 p.m. Later that night, Bishop Guilfoyle will meet Juniata Valley for the third straight year in the playoffs. This time it will take place in Alexandria in the District 6 Class 1A semifinals.

Bedford staying close

The Bedford girls soccer team will play its Class 2A semifinal game at a District 5 site when they attempt to punch their ticket to the state finals with a game against WPIAL champion South Park in Somerset at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

If the Lady Bisons win, they will play for the state championship in Hershey on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Battle of locals

Bishop Carroll and Northern Cambria’s high school girls volleyball teams will meet in a rematch of the District 6 Class 1A championship on Tuesday at Altoona Area High School’s Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.

The matchup, a PIAA Class 1A semifinal, will decide which team advances to the state championship which will be held Saturday at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg at 10:30 a.m.
