Altoona’s Queen set to play in PSFCA game

The Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association 2018 East West All-Star game is set for Sunday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at Mansion Park in Altoona, and there will be a Mountain Lion on the field when the game kicks off.

Jayvion Queen, an offensive lineman for Altoona who will play his college ball at Colgate, is on the West’s 34-man squad. Other notable players include State College’s Brandon Clark (receiver) and Jackson Heasley (defensive end), Ligonier Valley’s Jacob Neiderhiser (defensive lineman) and Berlin Brothersvalley’s Carter Raupach (kicker).

The West coach is Eric Kasperowicz of Pine-Richland. One of his assistants is United’s Kevin Marabito. The East is coached by Chad Brubaker of Spring Ford.

The East has won 11 of the 16 games played in the series with the West beating the East, 17-14, last year. Past players in the game, which started back in June of 2001 at Mansion Park, have gone on to play collegiately at Penn State, Pitt, Maryland, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Michigan, Navy, Toledo, Princeton, Yale and Cornell. Several of them have gone on to NFL careers, too.

The game director for the event is Hollidaysburg football coach and athletic director Homer DeLattre.
