BG’s Leamer wins top honor

The Pennsylvania Football News recently released its 2017 Class 1A All-State team, and Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic’s Nick Leamer was named lineman of the year.

Leamer, a 6-foot-2, 286-pound senior,was also named on the first team as an offensive lineman. He was part of a Marauder team that won three state championships and went 59-1 over a four-year span that ended this past fall with a 12-1 record and a loss to Homer-Center in the District 6 championship.

Joining Leamer on the first-team was teammate Kolton McGhee, a 6-foot-0, 183-pound junior kicker. The Marauders also had senior lineman Dominic Georgiana named to the honorable mention team.

Members of the second-team on offense included Portage’s Zach Wiggins, a 5-foot-10, 230-pound senior running back and Northern Bedford athlete Josh Dasher, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior.

Honorable mention status also went to Portage’s Austin McCabe, a senior tight end, and Luke Chobany a senior offensive lineman.

Making the first team on defense for Bishop Guilfoyle were linebacker Josh Yasulitis, a 6-foot-0, 206-pound senior, and Mark Conrad, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound senior defensive back. Second-team honors went to teammate Max Sankey, a 6-foot-2, 211-pound senior defensive lineman. Northern Bedford’s Tristan Guyer, a 5-foot-8, 175-pound senior defensive lineman, also made the team

Receiving honorable mention status was Moshannon Valley junior Jacob Matchock as a defensive back.

The Player of the Year on offense was Jeannette senior Robert Kennedy while teammate Jalen Jones, a senior, was the Player of the Year on defense. Jeannette,s Roy Hall won the Coach of the Year.
