Rangers crush Rams

Special to the Mirror

SIDMAN — Forest Hills showed no ill-effects from its game against Richland that was moved from Friday to Monday night.

The Rangers scored touchdowns on each of their first six possessions as the unit rolled up 385 total yards of offense. Richland pulled within 20-15 in the second quarter, but the hosts scored 23 unanswered points in a span of 4:31 to break open the game and roll to a 49-21 victory.

The Rangers extended their current winning streak to three games. Forest Hills was led by the explosive duo of quarterback Adam Cecere and running back Jon Long. Cecere went 3-for-3 through the air for 83 yards while rushing for 89 yards and accounting for three touchdowns. Long scored four touchdowns, which included a 53-yard interception return and a 97-yard run that came after a lateral.

“Those two guys are playmakers. We need them to make plays to be successful and they made some big plays,” Forest Hills coach Don Bailey said. “Give credit to our offensive line too, they made some of those holes so those guys get those big runs. Our sophomore quarterback is coming to life now, he’s done a heck of a job.”

Richland trimmed the lead down to 20-15 in the second. But Forest Hills scored 37 points in the second frame to create plenty of separation. Ryan Richardson caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Cecere while Long bolted for a 25-yard touchdown run and capped off the half with a  53-yard interception return for a score.

“I think that’s been the change in our season. Our defense started to gel. Ever since the Central Cambria game, we’ve played really good defense,” Bailey said.

Forest Hills hosts Bedford this Friday while Richland travels to Bishop Carroll.
