Mirror debuts scholastic football magazine
The Mirror is about to “blitz” the area with high school football coverage.
An inaugural full-color preseason glossy magazine, “Blitz,” features 26 area high schools and covers 116 pages.
Coverage of each school includes a profile of a returning player, written by John Hartsock, along with players to watch, analysis by Mirror Assistant Sports Editor Philip Cmor plus 2012 statistics and 2013 schedules.
“Blitz,” which costs $4.95, goes on sale Monday at the Mirror – 301 Cayuga Avenue in Altoona. It is also available at Giant Eagle locations in Altoona, Ebensburg and Bedford as well as at the Logan Valley Mall.

“Blitz is a natural evolution, for both our local sports coverage and our glossy magazine initiative at the Mirror,” said Ray Eckenrode, Mirror General Manager of Advertising. “We retain the mass appeal and audience of our newspaper coverage, but the magazine provides great value to special interest readers who just can’t get enough about high school football.”
Mirror Managing Editor Neil Rudel said “Blitz” will not replace but will supplement the Mirror’s annual preseason football tabloid, which will run on Tuesday, Aug. 27. The tabloid will include lettermen’s pictures, up-to-date preseason rosters and a capsule look at each team’s projected starters.
“We’ve always had the attitude that we cannot overcover high school football,” Rudel said. “Blitz is a wonderful addition to our commitment of high school football coverage.”
“Blitz” can also be ordered online at blitz.altoonamirror.com.
