Brumbaugh helps Tussey crush Jays

SAXTON — The Tussey Mountain girls basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the District 5 1A playoffs Thursday night, thanks to a 65-21 win over Johnstown Christian.

Sophie Brumbaugh had a career night for the Lady Titans (16-7), scoring 28 points, including 16 in the first half as Tussey put Johnstown Christian (7-14) away early.

“They had no one to guard her,” Tussey Mountain coach Todd Gates said. “We just kept going to her because they couldn’t guard her.”

Meghan Molosky added 21 points as the Lady Titans built their lead to 39-13 at halftime over the Lady Blue Jays.

“Sometimes, you can get careless when you play a bad team but we didn’t,” Gates said. “I was very pleased with everything we did tonight.”

Tussey, which also got 14 points and 10 steals from Lexi Weimert, will play Berlin Brothersvalley in the semifinals on Tuesday at Chestnut Ridge.

“It was good because everyone got into the game,” Gates said of the outcome. “We did the things we wanted to do when our first group was in there.”
