AAHS hosting PIAA semis

The Altoona Area High School Fieldhouse will be the venue for both girls basketball semifinal round state playoff games involving area schools this week, the PIAA announced on Sunday morning.

Both games are rematches of District 6 championship games held earlier this month.

This evening, Bellwood-Antis will endeavor to avenge its thrilling but heartbreaking 60-58 D6 Class 2A loss to Bishop McCort at 6 p.m. If the Lady Blue Devils can reverse the earlier result, they’ll be heading to Giant Center in Hershey for the state finals for just the second time in program history.

Bishop Carroll will face the Juniata Valley squad it defeated, 49-41, for the District 6 Class 1A title at the Fieldhouse on Tuesday, also at 6 p.m. The Lady Huskies are trying to get back to Hershey for the first time since winning the second of back-to-back state trophies in 2003. Valley is playing in its first state semifinal contest.

The 12 state championship games will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
