Everett rebounds

EVERETT – The Everett girls basketball team had a rare opportunity Saturday afternoon: a quick opportunity to bounce back against Tussey Mountain.

In what was a defensive affair, the Lady Warriors got the split, beating the Lady Titans, 37-33, in an Inter-County Conference South Division and Sideling Hill League contest at Everett Area High School.

Thursday night, Tussey took the first matchup in the three-day period, 53-40.

“Anytime we can get a win over Tussey Mountain, we’ll take it,” Everett coach Keith Moyer said. “Two of the better programs in the area, and both schools’ kids lay it on the line. You’ve got to appreciate that.”

The Lady Warriors held Tussey to three single-digit quarters, powered by four blocks by Kadie Morral, and 25-23 rebound margin. Everett held a 19-15 advantage on the defensive glass.

“You get single-digit quarters, you’re going to have a chance to win, and we did that tonight,” Moyer said.

Everett enjoyed a balanced scoring attack during the first, as four of its starters got on the scoreboard, including two jumpers by Allison Snider.

Snider led all scorers with 14 points and was the only player to reach double figures for either team.

“She’s been hobbled for a couple of weeks, and she really got it going tonight,” Moyer said.

The Lady Warriors carried a 19-17 halftime lead.

Everett’s defensive effort created a scoring drought that lasted nearly 2 minutes for the Lady Titans. Tussey’s first and only bucket of the quarter didn’t come until the 5:27 mark when Madi Husick scored on a jumper.

“We struggled to score in the third quarter,” Tussey Mountain coach Todd Gates said. “We were getting the ball inside, and we were just missing shots. Sometimes that happens. We really fought hard to get it back to manageable.”

Breana Kendrick – who scored just eight points – hit a 3-pointer that allowed Tussey to get within three.

Gates was optimistic despite the loss.

“It was a good effort,” Gates said. “Every time we play each other it’s going to be a good, exciting game.”
