Mountain Lions fall to CD East

HARRISBURG – Dwight Whitlock scored 22 points to lead Central Dauphin East to a 64-50 win over Altoona in high school boys basketball action on Saturday.

Altoona was led by Jacob Port and Danny Kirwin, who scored 14 and 11 points, respectively. Derrick Biney scored 10 points for CD East.

GYMNASTICS

Weaver leads Altoona

MOON TOWNSHIP – Teiha Weaver finished third in the vault (8.95), seventh on the beam (8.375) and eighth in the all-around (32.925) in the Silver Division for the Altoona Area High School gymnastics team at the Moon Invitational.

Other Altoona place-winners in the Bronze Division included Morgan Lidwell, who was 12th in the vault and 10th in the all-around, Allyssa Rispoli, who was fourth in the vault, seventh on the floor and 11th in the all-around, and Sadie Rhyner, who was 11th on the floor.

Tomahawks iced

CONNELLSVILLE – The Johnstown Tomahawks and Keystone Ice Miners appeared to be headed toward overtime for a second straight night, but a Jacob Coleman goal and a Matt Jones empty net goal gave the Ice Miners a 3-1 win on Saturday night.

The loss was the Tomahawks’ fifth straight, the longest streak of the season. After a scoreless first period, Austin Romzek gave Keystone a 1-0 lead, 41 seconds into the second period. Vito Aluia and Lucas Little earned the assists on Romzek’s eighth goal of the season.

The score remained until Casey Linkenheld tied the game at 5:15 of the third period. Joe Drabin earned an assist on the goal, while Dalton Hunter earned his first point since earning an assist against Soo Nov. 22.

Jacob Coleman earned the win for the Ice Miners with 3:22 remaining. Lord Anthony Grissom and AJ Coleman picked up the assists on the game-winning goal. Jones set the final score with 7 seconds remaining in the game.
