Altoona wins Fiochetta consy

Altoona captured the consolation game of the Ron Fiochetta Memorial Tournament on Saturday, thanks to a 4-0 win over Glendale at Vets Field Saturday in high school baseball action.

The game was called after five innings because of rain.

The title game between Hollidaysburg and Bishop Guilfoule Catholic was rained out and will be made up on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. back at Vets Field.

Winning pitcher Ben Foose struck out 12 in five innings. He gave up three hits with just two walks. Dylan Conrad got credit for the only RBI for Altoona.

Glendale got two hits from Tyler Potutschnig.

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Haylee Hayward had two hits – including a home run – and drove in two runs to lead Philipsburg-Osceola to a win at Punxsutawney.

The Lady Mounties, who got two hits each from Haley Frank, Kenzie Burge, Maggie Peck, Megan Bainey and Chelsey Henry, scored a run in the top of the seventh to take the lead for good at 7-6.

BEDFORD – Alyssa Miller had two triples, a double and six hits in all to power Westmont Hilltop to a Laurel Highlands Conference doubleheader sweep of Bedford.

Alyssa Turkovich doubled and drove in two runs for Bedford in the first game. Her twin sister, Emily, drove in a run in the second game.

Central at tourney

CORAOPOLIS – The Central boys volleyball team finished with a 4-8 record at the Our Lady of Sacred Heart Tournament.

In the morning pool Central lost to North Hills and Moon by 0-2 scores and defeated Ford City 2-0. In the afternoon pool Central defeated Ford City again 2-0 and lost to Obama Academy and West Shamokin by 0-2 scores.

Matt Price led Central with 13 kills and 11 service points. Mike Madden added 22 assists.
