New Castle finishes 31-0
HERSHEY – New Castle completed an undefeated season at 31-0 by topping LaSalle College, 52-39, in the PIAA Class AAAA boys basketball championship game on Saturday night at the Giant Center.
CLASS?AA BOYS: Constitution used a strong start in the fourth quarter to open up some breathing room then held on for dear life down the stretch against Seton-LaSalle. Constitution, from the Philadelphia Public League watched a nine-point, fourth-quarter lead evaporate down the stretch before finally holding off the Catholic school from suburban Pittsburgh 61-59 in the PIAA Class AA boys championship game.
CLASS?AAA?GIRLS:?With a thunderous assist from Blackhawk junior guard Chassidy Omogrosso, Steve Lodovico can now call himself a PIAA champion as a basketball player and coach. Omogrosso poured in 26 points, and teammate Halle Denman added 13 as the fast-paced Cougars dealt Philadelphia-product Archbishop Wood a 51-43 setback in the girls PIAA Class AAA final.
CLASS?A?GIRLS:?It didn’t take long for WPIAL champion Vincentian Academy to settle a score the originated one year ago. The Royals, outclassed by Tri-Valley in the 2013 girls PIAA Class A basketball championship, won the 2014 version, cruising past Old Forge 58-34. Junior Brenna Wise posted a double-double, scoring 21 points with 11 rebounds.
