Mirror Classic rosters announced

The Altoona Mirror Basketball Classic combines some of the region’s top hoops together on the same court for the first time.

Sometimes, though, it brings some of that talent back together, too.

Such will be the case in Friday’s ninth edition of the event.

Three members of the Altoona Area High School girls team – Darby Lee, Lauren Donley and McKenzie Hatch – will be reunited with former Lady Lion teammate Emily Iuzzolino, who transferred to Tyrone for her senior year of high school, on a Blair County squad that will be aiming to break the 4-4 deadlock in the all-time series with the Central PA girls at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Mount Aloysius College’s new Athletic Convocation and Wellness Center, roughly 90 minutes before for the boys game. They’ll be joined by cousins Jordyn Swogger of Tyrone and Bailey Swogger of Bellwood-Antis, both of whom spent some time growing up in the Altoona program.

Iuzzolino and Swogger will be coached one more time by the Lady Eagles’ Luke Rhoades, as well.

Portage coach Lance Hudak will get one more chance to coach Lady Mustang stars Olivia McCabe and Emily Chobany for Central PA. A couple of members of Portage’s WestPAC rival, Berlin Brothersvalley, Shelby Coughenour and Erica Craig, will be part of the Central PA girls team, as will Southern Fulton Division I recruit and all-state player Macey Hollenshead.

The Blair boys will include what figures to be a formidable inside-outside punch with Altoona post Manny Span and Tyrone guard Brandon Gripp. They’ll have to click against a Central PA squad fronted by 6-foot-6 Marcus Lee of state semifinalist Bishop Carroll.

Proceeds benefit the Big John Riley Scholarship Fund.
