B-A, BG girls relatively close

Of the five area high school teams remaining in pursuit of PIAA basketball gold, only two will remain somewhat close to home for their second round games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The PIAA announced on Sunday that the Bellwood-Antis girls will be playing at Indiana Area High School on Tuesday night, while the Bishop Guilfoyle girls will be at Richland High School on Wednesday. The District 6 Class AA champion Lady Devils are taking on WPIAL runner-up Burrell at 6 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader that also includes the State College/North Allegheny Class AAAA girls game at 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Lady Marauders, District 6 Class A champs, will be the only game at their venue the following night – they tip off against District 7 runner-up Serra Catholic at 7 p.m.

Both of those games are rematches from last year’s PIAA tournament.

Two other area district champion squads take the floor on Tuesday. In Class A boys, Bishop Carroll will head to Gateway High School in Monroeville as the Huskies attempt to stay unbeaten against Monessen at 7:30 p.m. In Class AA girls, Tussey Mountain treks all the way to Penn Hills High School in Pittsburgh for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff with General McLane from District 10.

On Wednesday, the Claysburg-Kimmel girls look to continue their Cinderella run at Hempfield High School in Greensburg at 6:30 p.m. against District 10’s Kennedy Catholic.
