Ice storm postpones hoop playoffs
From Mirror reports
There were 14 games on Friday’s high school basketball playoff schedule in District 6 and District 5, but only one winner.
The freezing rain and ice that caused many of regional school to dismiss early also caused both districts to postpone their respective postseason tournaments for a day. All the games now will be played tonight at the original site.
Most also will be played at the original time, too. The exceptions are three District 5 Class A quarterfinal-round girls games, including Northern Bedford, which will tip off against visiting Meyersdale at 5:30 p.m.
The four District 6 Class AAAA games slated for Bald Eagle Area this afternoon are unaffected by Friday’s changes.
District 6 also announced sites and times for several of next week’s games.
The Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic teams will play in a Class A semifinal doubleheader at Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg on Monday; the Lady Marauders face Penns Manor at 6, the Marauders take on Homer-Center at 7:30.
Meanwhile, four area teams will clash at the Hollidaysburg Senior High School: Portage and Juniata Valley in Class A girls at 6, followed by Bishop Carroll and Juniata Valley in Class A boys at 7:30.
On Tuesday, Central Cambria will be the venue as Huntingdon meets Carrick in the first game of a 6-AAA girls twinbill at 6 p.m. Johnstown and Westinghouse play in the nightcap.
