Athlete of the week achievement: Shaffer finished second in the state in Class 1A at the PIAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Hershey. Her time was 19 minutes, 51 seconds.

Season update: Shaffer finished first in six of eight dual meets this season and finished second in the Altoona Invitational and the District 6 Class 1A Championships.

Coach Lance Hudak’s quote: “Speed and stamina, Lauren has it all. One of the fastest sprinters in the area, she has now proven to be one of the top cross country runners in all of Pa.
