Thompson comes up big during state playoff run

Athlete of the week achievement: Thompson went 1-for-3, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs in Philipsburg-Osceola’s Class 3A state championship victory over Holy Redeemer. In the semifinals, she hit a key home run, doubled, scored three runs and drove in two more in P-O’s win over Southmoreland.

Season update: Thompson played in all 26 games, hit .411 with 10 doubles, three home runs and 23 RBIs while playing shortstop for the Lady Mounties.

Coach Jim Gonder’s quote: “She really played well in the playoffs, and that home run in the semifinals was big and gave us the momentum. She’s a strong defensive shortstop for us and played well throughout the year. I’m very proud of her.”
