Tigers’ Mercer at top of game

Name: Hannah Mercer

School: Hollidaysburg

Age: 18

Grade: Senior

Sport: Softball

Athlete of the week achievement: Mercer went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, including the game-tying and go-ahead runs, in a victory over Johnstown in the District 6 Class AAA semifinals. She also made a key sliding catch in the sixth inning.

Season update: Mercer is hitting .547 (29-for-53) with 15 runs scored, 15 RBIs, two homers, four triples and six doubles. She’s struck out just once this season and has only two errors at shortstop. The Lady Tigers will play for the District title Wednesday against Bellefonte.

Coach Dennis Carter’s quote: “She has the total package as far as work ethic, desire, enthusiasm. That’s still not enough that can be said about her. She shows up for every practice and every game and gives 100 percent and goes to the park by herself or with her parents to get extra work in. Division I schools should have been following her – she’s that caliber of a player.”
