Lady Lions blown out on road

MINNEAPOLIS — The Penn State women’s basketball team wasn’t able to slow down a red-hot Minnesota offense as the Gophers took down the Lady Lions 97-67 Sunday afternoon.

Senior Teniya Page led four Lady Lions in double figures with 14 points. Junior Jaida Travascio-Green scored 11 points, while junior Siyeh Frazier and sophomore Kamaria McDaniel added 10 apiece.

The 3-pointer helped Penn State get out to a quick 9-2 lead just over three minutes into the game, but Minnesota answered with a 23-4 run over the next 4:45 to take a 25-13 advantage with 1:21 left in the quarter. Layups from Page and freshman Lauren Ebo helped Penn State put points on the board in the final minute, but the Gophers carried a 28-17 lead into the second quarter.

Page recorded her 42nd-straight double-digit effort and the 103rd career double figure performance.

With five made free throws, Page has now made 527 career free throws, putting her just 21 freebies away from breaking the school record of 547 that was set by former standout Maggie Lucas (2011-14). Frazier recorded her 16th double-digit effort of the season.

McDaniel scored in double figures for the 12th time this season, while Travascio-Green notched her third double-digit effort.

The Lady Lions return to Happy Valley for their penultimate home game Thursday evening when Penn State hosts Purdue at 7 p.m. inside the Bryce Jordan Center.
