FIRST QUARTER

Penn State 7, Maryland 0: Trace McSorley hit KJ Hamler for 34 yards on the first play from scrimmage to the Terps’ 40, then Miles Sanders broke numerous tackles going for 35 yards on the next play to the 5. McSorley scored from 3 yards out two plays later with 13:24 left in the first.

Penn State 7, Maryland 3: The Terps hit a big pass play on their second series, with Tyrrell Pigrome hitting Brian Cobbs for 48 yards to the PSU 13. The Lions held on defense, and Joseph Petrino kicked a 26-yard field goal with 4:53 left in the half.

Penn State 14, Maryland 3: McSorley hit Ricky Slade for a 12-yard gain to start a drive, and later on a Slade run, the Terps were flagged for a 15-yard personal foul. Slade then went 12 yards to the 31, and on first down from the 20, McSorley scrambled free up the middle and went untouched to the end zone with 1:58 to go in the first.

SECOND QUARTER

Penn State 17, Maryland 3: The Lions put together a good drive late in the half and got a 17-yard pass from McSorley to Daniel George to the Terps’ 28. McSorley was intercepted on the next play, but replay showed the defender was out of bounds. McSorley then connected with DeAndre Thompkins for 21 yards to the 7. PSU stalled there, though, and Jake Pinegar kicked a 25-yard field goal with 2:06 left in the half.

THIRD QUARTER

Penn State 24, Maryland 3: The Lions went 86 yards in nine plays for a TD early in the third quarter, getting 15 extra yards when Terps linebacker Tre Watson was ejected for targeting. Ricky Slade finished off the long drive with an 8-yard TD run with 9:10 left in the third.

FOURTH QUARTER

Penn State 31, Maryland 3: McSorley hit tight end Pat Freiermuth for 22 yards, then connected with Juwan Johnson for a 38-yard gain to the Maryland 18. An 8-yard pass to Johnson set up first-and-goal at the 5, and McSorley hit Freiermuth on the next play with 12:24 to go.

Penn State 38, Maryland 3: McSorley was given a huge ovation when he was lifted from his final home game with nine minutes to go. Backup Tommy Stevens came on and led a TD drive, hitting Hamler for 20 yards on a pass and then scrambling for an 18-yard run to the 1. Slade scored from a yard out two plays later with 6:13 to go.
