PSU men’s soccer team gets seven to sign early

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State men’s soccer head coach Jeff Cook announced the signing of seven student-athletes in the early signing period on Monday.

The incoming class includes Liam Butts (Lawrenceville, Ga.), Michael Gaines (Oxon Hill, Md.), Kyle May (Lebanon, Pa.), Andrew Privett (Fallston, Md.), Ben Ofeimu (West Bloomfield, Mich.), Kris Shakes (Sunrise, Fla.) and Alex Stevenson (Bel Air, Md.).

Cook’s 2019 signing class is ranked as the 10th-best recruiting class by TopDrawerSoccer. Additionally, three recruits are ranked in the top 100.

“We are delighted to welcome these seven outstanding student-athletes to the Penn State men’s soccer family,” said head coach Jeff Cook. “Our staff has worked tirelessly to identify and recruit players that we felt could make a significant contribution to our program. We feel confident that these efforts have resulted in a class that will have a lasting impact on our success both on and off the field.”

Barratt honored

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The accolades continue to roll in for Penn State sophomore Evan Barratt as he was named the Hockey Commissioners’ Association National Division I Co-Player of the Month along with Harvard’s Adam Fox.

Barratt becomes the first player in program history to earn HCA Player of the Month laurels after leading the nation with 10 goals in nine games during the month of November, including a hat trick against Michigan and a program-record seven-game goal streak from Nov. 2-23.

Elsewhere:

n Penn State freshman Izzy Heminger was named the College Hockey America Rookie of the Month for November as announced by the league on Dec. 5.

n The Penn State women’s volleyball team saw six student-athletes honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as Kendall White, Jonni Parker, Kaitlyn Hord, Bryanna Weiskircher and Nia Reed were all named to the AVCA Northeast All-Region Team, while Serena Gray was named to the honorable mention list, as announced by the organization’s office. Parker, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, was also named the AVCA Northeast Freshman of the Year.

n The Penn State women’s hockey team and head coach Jeff Kampersal have announced the addition of four student-athletes to the program during the 2018 National Signing Day period. Julie Gough, Mikayla Lantto, Mallory Uihlein and Rachel Weiss have each signed their National Letters of Intent to join the Nittany Lions for the start of the 2019-20 academic year.

n The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team collected three Longstreth/NFHCA All-American honorees with the announcement of the teams by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Three seniors were honored: Cori Conley was a second team All-American as a defender while seniors Gini Bramley and Moira Putsch were third team honorees as a midfielder and forward respectively.
