Penn State, Iowa wrestling match sold out for Saturday

UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestlers will host the Iowa Hawkeyes this Saturday at 8 p.m.,

The match will air live on the Big Ten Network and is already sold out in the near-16,000 seat arena. Penn State is 12-0 overall and 7-0 in the Big Ten. Iowa is 11-2 overall and 6-2 in conference action.

Penn State is coming off a 19-18 win over Ohio State at a Rec Hall last Saturday, a dual wrestled without returning national champion Jason Nolf at 157.

The win, highlighted by Penn State coming back from a 10-point halftime deficit, clinched at least a share of the Big Ten regular season title for the Lions. The Nittany Lions got wins over highly-ranked foes from returning national champions Zain Retherford (149), Vincenzo Joseph (165), Mark Hall (174) and Bo Nickal (184). Sophomore Anthony Cassar added, a 6-3 win over No. 1 Kollin Moore at 197.

The Nittany Lions feature a talented line-up, including eight ranked wrestlers. The Hawkeyes feature a talented lineup with six ranked wrestlers. Freshman Spencer Lee is 12-1 overall and ranked No. 3 at 125 while senior Brandon Sorensen is 18-0 at 149 and ranked No. 2. Sophomore Michael Kemerer is 18-0 and ranked No. 2 at 157 while freshman Alex Marinelli is 12-0 and No. 7 at 165. Sophomore Cashe Wilke is 15-3 and No. 7 at 197 and junior Sam Stoll is 15-1 and ranked No. 3 at 285.

Penn State won last year’s meeting in Iowa City, 26-11. Iowa won the last meeting in State College, an 18-12 victory in 2015.

Iowa leads the all-time series 26-10-2.
