Hoenstine sees progress
Alex Hoenstine said he made progress in all aspects of his game during his redshirt freshman season for Penn State.
The Central product, a preferred walk-on receiver with the Nittany Lions, made the bowl trip to Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl with the rest of the team and was able to enjoy all of the festivities.
“It was awesome,” Hoenstine said. “A lot different from what I’ve been used to.”
Asked what areas he improved the most, he said, “Catching, running, footwork. Footwork, I got a lot better.
“I think I improved and developed in every aspect of the game. I think I’ve grown a lot as a player since high school.”
Hoenstine spent the season on the scout team, helping the defensive players prepare.
“Go one-on-ones against cornerbacks, get the starting defense ready for game day,” he said.
Hoenstine thinks he should have a good chance of getting on the field during games next season on special teams, particularly the kickoff or punt units.
