Pry may be set to stay

It appears that defensive coordinator Brent Pry could be staying put at Penn State rather than leaving to become head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette.

News broke late Thursday night that Louisiana-Lafayette offered the job and a five-year contract to Billy Napier, the offensive coordinator at Arizona State. That development was first reported by SunDevilSource.com, which covers Arizona State sports.

There was no official word that Napier had accepted the offer.

Earlier Thursday, there were published reports indicating that Pry had emerged as a favorite for the Louisiana-Lafayette position.

Pry has extensive ties to Louisiana-Lafayette, serving as defensive coordinator there from 2002-06. He was also the assistant head coach his final three years there, and he has family connections in Louisiana.

Louisiana-Lafayette went 5-7 this season and fired coach Mark Hudspeth. The team competes in the Sun Belt Conference, and Hudspeth reportedly made $1.15 million per year with the Ragin’ Cajuns.

FootballScoop.com reported that Pry was one of four people interviewed for the job. Napier, Grambling head coach Broderick Fobbs and Nicholls head coach Tim Rebowe were the others.

Pry is scheduled to meet with the media this morning as part of Penn State’s bowl media day gathering.
