Barkley picked as top Big Ten RB

Saquon Barkley was named first-team all-Big Ten running back for the second straight year Wednesday as the league released its offensive awards.

Barkley was selected first team by the league’s coaches and media after an impressive regular season that saw him emerge as one of the leading contenders for the Heisman Trophy. He has 1,134 yards rushing and 594 yards receiving and scored 19 offensive touchdowns.

Tight end Mike Gesicki was named first-team all-conference by the Big Ten coaches and second team by the media. Gesicki has more receptions and receiving yards than any tight end in PSU history. He leads the team with 51 catches this season for 501 yards and eight touchdowns.

Quarterback Trace McSorley was named second-team all-conference by the coaches and media. He has 3,228 yards passing and 26 TDs to only eight interceptions.

Receiver DaeSean Hamilton was named to the second team by the coaches and third team by the media. PSU’s career receptions leader, he has 48 catches for 747 yards and seven TDs.

Tackle Ryan Bates was named to the third team by the coaches and media. He was the team’s best lineman but battled an injury late that cost him three games.

Receiver Juwan Johnson (48 catches for 635 yards and one TD) was an honorable mention selection by the coaches and media.
