Lions win title tilt over UW

DETROIT — The Penn State ice hockey team captured its first-ever Big Ten championship Saturday night, thanks to a 2-1 double- overtime win over Wisconsin in the title game at Joe Louis Arena.
Liam Folkes scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway opportunity. Folkes wound up with three goals in the tournament.
It was the second straight night Penn State played a double-overtime game. The Nittany Lions beat Minnesota Friday, 4-3, in double overtime.
The Nittany Lions and Wisconsin will both compete in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
